Not having learnt his lesson (or indeed, to type, or the English language)…

… Nimish Batra returns to blog.

Edit: If you get bored, confused or really angry with me, the best bit is the line with the links. At least for today, get them while they’re hot!

But what can someone in a terrible mood say? Here’s something the reality-challenged among us (our friends the blind happy tree friend optimists) would like to read:

I have a severe case of food poisoning and I might be in a hospital in a few days, just like in Chandigarh! YAY!

Thank God the doc here knows what’s what.

How long, how long must we sing this song?

What do our perennially pessimistic friends want? For me to throw in the towel. Which is why I don’t care to listen to them. Idiots.

Why do some people like to see only the bad things in life?

You should’ve not done that! Now you’re screwed! :)
Thanks genius. Where were you when I needed that advice? And what the hell do I do now?
I don’t know! :)

Yeah. Great. You’re very helpful.

Smiling all the time while being a nuisance. Is there a template for these kind of people? Details of their personality filled out while they grow up around this core?

On the other end of the spectrum, the optimists who want to see the good side of everything. Sometimes, you guys, you have to face the reality that tomorrow WILL be worse than yesterday. All we can do is survive this setback, and wait to thrive.

I desperately want to believe that tomorrow will be better, sometimes even when evidence is to the contrary.

But in the end, the only thing that I can see is this – make the best of whatever is in front of you, and if you can do that often enough, you’ll feel happier.

Because so many times in life we like to blame everyone and everything for what goes wrong – I’m at fault, my friends did this, the world hates me, that stupid waiter!

But a lot of the time, it’s just an accident. We just need to know when to accept the fury of the Erinyes and when to launch a military offensive.

Blech. This is terrible. Why am I dragging you into this?

Here’s the funny bits. Here. There. Everywhere.

  1. Does that mean we should all take the aisle seat?

It appears, 4 years for a B. Tech. make one indulge in a lot more philosophy than a 3 year philosophy honors course.

People, the earth, other life forms, civilizations, the planets, the sun, the moon, the stars – What, who, why? Which detective is on this case?

    P.s. – free advertisement and a positive review – THANKS !!

  2. Yes, what does it mean when both optimists and pessimists get on our nerves? Are we both? Neither? Balanced?

  3. Face it, you just despise everyone.

    Without discrimination.

On the bright side, DK can’t call you a racist like he keeps calling me.

  5. DK/Adam/Anupam – I was in a terrible despairing kinda mood. For three weeks. That’s WAY too long. I tried to spread the misery – kinda happy it didn’t spread. :) I hope to get better soon. Thanks for being kind and considerate about this.

DK – I dunno what tangent you’re on man, but continue. I might learn something new this way, and i can cheat a little and claim that it happened in March ‘08 – not a complete loss (save for barbarians!)

Adam – I don’t classify anyone permanently – you all (i.e., people I like talking to) shape shifting so-and-sos adapt to situations! Why can’t y’all be normal and accept the stereotypes that society fosters on you? o.O Hmm??
By “us” I mean the same – at least “I” try not to get taken in by the most forceful voice. I want to stay balanced so I become equally and oppositely forceful. Devil’s advocate and what not. Sometimes I try, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I succeed, other times, I fry.

Anupam – Glad to see you here. It makes it easier to focus on getting your words out, doesn’t it? (Not that it’s always a good thing, but you’re far more likely to end up closer to something really good this way).
No I’m no misanthrope. Nothing that simple. :P There’s parts of my mind I don’t fully explore because they don’t have any explicitly specified algorithmic patterns which I can discern! When I know, I’ll blog it. :D

  6. But this is not philosophy. It is somebody who is in a bad mood and says so, though not very clearly. Philosophy deals with what has been said about happiness and its opposite, and with what can be learnt from what has been said.

Personal moods and states of mind should all be sent over to the psychology department. They love that kind of thing there.

  7. No no. We philosophise about all this when we’re in our more sober moods. that’s bachelor of Technology mostly – getting angry and miserable and contemplating the meaning of the word “electrical” and how it applies to your degree in your sober moods!

  8. I see. You take “philosophize” in that larger meaning where it does not mean anything.

  9. Basically that’s right. We shoot the breeze, use big words, laugh on each other, on ourselves, and just try to stay upbeat. :)
