Step by Step.
1. Install Wine.
2. Install IE 6 using IEs4Linux.
3. Download Roboform [roboform.com], and run it by accessing it through the IE6 address bar [pretend as if it was Windows Explorer... use the Open dialog or the Address bar].
4. Once installed, copy your “My Roboform Data” folder from My Documents (or wherever) on your Windows partition, into the folder specified by Roboform @ Linux.
5. Use the exact same method as #3 for downloading and installing Firefox (www.download.com) under Wine, and download and install Roboform’s Firefox adapter (roboform.com).
Voila! Cross browser Roboform now works.
Just make sure to have the desktop icon enabled during installation for both IE and Firefox, and you can’t go wrong.
I installed IE 6 because I was curious, and I seriously think that using it (or Firefox for windows) under Wine cuts down on the system’s responsiveness (512 MB Ram here). You’re better off running Flock [not available in Synaptic for Feisty], Opera [it's also slower in Feisty, but worked well in PCLinuxOS 2007... I suspect it's a WINE adapted installation] or even plain ol’ Firefox. There’s also Swiftfox in some repository or the other, there’s Dillo (if you’re adventurous) and Epiphany as well.
I’ve no need for Roboform, but I used to need it. If you think you REALLY need it, consider asking Siber Systems (makers of Roboform) directly for a Linux version, rather than using it under Wine. It’s pretty ugly, but it works well enough.
Anyhow, I’ve uninstalled it all [running out of disk space, going to install 'Gamezzz' ] and it’s a nice diversion.
Just use Opera and share the Wand file across OSes.
Tested @ Xubuntu Feisty, will probably work @ PCLinuxOS 2007…
Most excellent post. this helped me with my final need for moving to Ubuntu all the way.

Do note that it won’t work on your Firefox installation inside normal Ubuntu. It has to be under wine.
And if you find a method that works any better, do post a comment, and I’ll insert a link at the top.

I got roboform working on IE6 in wine. Thanks!!!
However, I still can not get roboform working in firefox.
I have installed firefox into wine. The roboform adapter seems to install like a normal extension/add-on but doesn’t work. What am I missing here?

A fresh install of firefox under wine, but this time, do it the same way you installed roboform, accessing it through IE’s address bar.
Apart from that, I’m not a Linux guy tbh. So you can try your luck at the wine forums.
Here’s what I think is happening. IE6 is installed by the script at some location. The local variables, registry etc. are set up for that loction only. So when you install firefox like normal, it uses Wine defaults, and not the defaults set up by the script. So to force Firefox and roboform to use the exact same defaults, you need to go through IE’s address bar for them to use the same copies.
Like I said, I’m no expert, and I’ve got a very hazy picture. But, it’s a picture.
Hope that helps.

Roboform is the one program I simply haven’t found a replacement for with Linux (Ubuntu Feisty). Everything else their is an alternative for, but not roboform.
I actually have spoken to Siber Systems about a Linux version. I was told, in no uncertain terms, it is not going to happen. Their will also be no OSX, or Windows x64 versions.
Using crossover office, I was able to get Roboform to run and work through native Firefox, but the roboform toolbar always drew itself with a heigth of 10 normal toolbars. It worked, but it just didn’t work.
I like Opera, but can’t live without my Firefox extensions anymore
. That leaves me with using Crossover office, where I lose valuable screen real-estate, but connect linux firefox to my roboform passcards, or use Wine, where I lose valuable memory to run Windows firefox connected to my roboform passcards.
-sigh-

Roboform is a great program but kind of dumb of the developers not to make linux and mac versions. Come on guys, not everyone is windoze and millions of customers are out there waiting to buy your product… In the meantime, we have: http://www.keepassx.org/

Hi rk
Not enjoying the experience.
Sorry, no idea about Xandros. I’ve been Linux-less for a year now.
Try the Asus/Xandros forums. I hear they’re good.
And post back if you find a solution! I can update the post then.

I have been using Roboform for a year now. I love the program, and don’t know what I would do without it. I would recommend it. I made a quick video about teh program and posted it on squidoo

Roboform creators are arrogant, and does not deserve to be in business.
They are microsoft .NET slaves, and won’t even answer questions regarding Linux.
I have two “words”: sxipper.com and handypassword.com (handy is working on Linux support) SXipper already works on both Linux & Windows.

Awesome it is.
I’ll check out handypassword next I guess.

try lastpass.com ! plugins for Linux and windows, it does the job great ! – imports from Roboform, FREE, and BETTER, no arrogance towards Linux.
I switched completely.
