Barely half an hour to finish the install, Beryl runs with a very slight load, some quirks I hadn’t expected, coming from this windows world… but overall pretty amazing.
I’m unhappy about the slight crashing and temporary delays to the order of being noticeable, but so far, it’s faster and stabler than my Windows setup.
And it’s got much more running under the hod thanks to all the BEAGLE and the BERYL.
Full review coming up in a couple of days.

I chose PCLinuxOS because it was “supposedly” both faster and easier to learn/use than Ubuntu. I haven’t seen much of feisty yet [I will very soon] but it’s faster and easier all right. It even has the famed “Synaptic”.
I did make some stupid mistakes, and I found some nifty tricks. Those I’ll put in later.
Oh, and it’s got everything except the ridiculously poor games. KDE is supposed to be slower than Gnome, but very soon I’ll try Xubuntu. Which will be a speed demon [I hope].
And I’ll install some C+++++++ and a decent GUI programming tool for .NET/Mono under Linux and learn .NET, Data structures AND operating systems!
And since a db is already there,
, I can hit DBMS concepts too.
Hooray for the month of June!
PCLinuxOS is an RPM-distro right? But I have heard that it uses apt, is this true?
Been kinda itching to give it a try but I love the deb-packages. I might try it though. Seems to be a fine distro. Looking forward to a full review. If you want you can send me a comment or whatever on my blog http://tuxtoday.wordpress.com when you got the review ready.

If you want to work with the same tools as PCLinuxOS, you might also want to try SAM Linux head-to-head vs. Xubuntu. Both are great. But, you may find you prefer one over the other.

recovering those via Firefox's history]
yeah… it uses Synaptic which if I’m not mistaken is built on apt.
It’s easy and fast.
The “review” will be all personalised for me. just a couple of more days [I lost all the little "fixes" I caried out
@mudcat
SAM Linux would be? Never heard of it… but then again, I get scared easily. I used to be a windows power user at one time, but it was so draining that my actual wish is to have a Mac ‘coz it Just Works™.
PCLOS is running it pretty close though. If only Beryl wasn’t such a pain in the butt.
To be honest I’m not open to trying out distro upon distro. I went in for the easiest fix I could get. I might never get to Xubuntu if this works out.

Hey either of you guys know how to get the virtual desktops working properly under Beryl ? I have a multiply-by-four issue cropping up.
It’s insane.
for x desktops specified in the KDE Control Panel, there are 4x after I enable Beryl. I even got to the point of editing config files and installed kicker-compiz and
pagersomething-compiz…. still no go.Maybe I’ll try Xubuntu soon.
See ya in 3 days or so.
